Northwest Teen Council Members

Posted on Wednesday October 03, 2007 by Gina Scalpone

This is a short biography about everyone on the teen council at the Northwest Library:

Cara:  I'm 12 and I'm Gina's sister.  I go to the best school in the whole wide world!!  My favorite subject is Math, and Zac Efron is pretty, but I'm no longer obsessed.

Gina:  I'm almost fiteen.  I listen to too much music, and I'm kind of stuck up about it.  I read so much I am told to stop reading and start going outside.  The people at the library know me so I don't need a library card, and I have two websites, which are advertised on here.  CHECK THEM OUT!!!  And just by the way, Zac Efron is getting old.  REALLY old.

Kris: I'm fifteen in 5 months and 25 days. I love the oldys music because of my dad listening to it all the time ever since i was born. ZAC EFRON SUCKS!!!!!!! I think preps are mean!!!!!!

Megan: Megan says hi. i could care less about boys!!!!!!!!! leave me alone.

Nick: I like books. I hate Zac Efron.

Madeleine isn't here today.  But she is cool.

The rest of the Teen Councils should do this.

"Would You Rather?"

Posted on Tuesday July 03, 2007 by Sara Ryan

"Would You Rather?" is the game that forces you to decide important questions like:

Would you rather have a nosy neighbor or a noisy neighbor??

And you can play it online.

More on blog guidelines

Posted on Tuesday March 13, 2007 by Sara Ryan

...reposted from an earlier version of the blog, including comments

What we DO NOT want to see:

  • No spamming! No chain emails, such as, “So and so died last night. If you don’t repost in thirty minutes, you will suffer a hemmorhage.”
  • Inappropriate language- no swearing, no references to drugs, sex, violence (unless it relates to an article or book). This includes abbreviated swearing.

What we want to see:

  • Book review of the week
  • weekly historical facts
  • random Shakespeare quotes
  • At the end of each blog, post a question about the blog just posted directed at your readers (for example, “What do you think,” “Whose side do you agree with,” etc.)
  • Possible interviews with local authors
  • Blogs devoted to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Eragon books, etc.
  • Game reviews- online RPGs, online games, video games, etc. (for the gamers!)
  • there should be a Suggestions/Comments/Questions link so other teens can contact the moderators
  • Moderators could replace all foul language with the word ”Squid.”
  • Moderators could place a signature with their name/username and a picture or small avatar at the end of each of their posts.

This has been brought to you by the Holgate Library Teen Council. ;D

I think that light swearing should be allowed because a lot of times, it will fit with the book. But don’t swear a lot, and not super-badly, because that will take away from the post.

    Random Shakespeare Quotes?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
    Are you mad?
Shakespeare is the most boring writer in the history of the universe.
    It is true.
The sooner you accept it, the less therapy you will have to go through.

Also, we like the Shakespeare quotes, but the Squid thing is kind of strange. It’s too random, and it will take away from the posts.

Blog guidelines — a work in progress

Posted on Tuesday March 13, 2007 by Sara Ryan

Opinionated posts and comments are fine, but don’t just say “this sucks”, “you suck”, etc.

No posting about personal grievances.

No obscenity.

No death threats, or anything including drugs or gang violence unless it’s connected to books, movies, games, or music that we’re reviewing.

We encourage posting:

Writing (stories, poems, etc.) and artwork

About trips we’ve taken, possibly with photos

About sporting events

About gaming activities

About restaurants and other places we like to go
