Getting to know the world of technology...

Posted on Friday January 11, 2008 by Nancy

Hello everyone and sorry for the delay!

I'm a first time blogger and it took some time to get used the baffling (to me anyway) technology associated with the blog. But now I'm here, and I'm ready!

A bit about myself- I'm a senior at Portland State University studying community development. Last summer I found out about a class that involved programming events for Multnomah County Library. I immediately signed up for it. And now, months after the end of the class, I'm still involved with them.

I've always loved the public library, as it has provided fuel for my curiosity throughout my life- dinosaur and animal books as a child, Camus and Woody Allen as an awkward teen, and now- everything from James Joyce to cookbooks and episodes of Sex in the City. I honestly don't think I would have made it to college without my weekly trips to the Belmont Branch, and as I approach graduation, cannot imagine living the rest of my life without a library a few miles away. This is why I think Everybody Reads is such a great thing, it is an opportunity to get people into the library and to rediscover what it has to offer... This is sounding kind of sappy, but I mean it.

What do you love about the library? Leave a comment to share!

I'll be looking at the program guide in the next few days and share info about the films, book groups, and other events coming up at the library!
