School records further criticism of Beah's memoir
Posted on Monday February 18, 2008 by Nancy

The Times published an article stating that school records found at the UNICEF school in Sierra Leone may add to the speculation that Beah's memoir is not totally accurate.
Beah still denies that his story is anything but accurate and is angry at the bad press lately,
“They [The Australian] never actually apologised for dragging me through that emotional thing . . . Every other day now, I go on The Australian’s website and they have a new instalment. This is what I think: they went and they didn’t find anything so they tried to find something else just to discredit me.”
A re-cap of the controversy can be found here, at ABCnews.com

If it is not true it is made up. It is therefore a work of fiction. I heart honesty.

Writer's who lie and publishers who encourage and abet liars are bad. When I knowingly lie for profit or to manipulate I am a bad person. Especially, when you trust me as truthful.
I look at the results of your poll and see that to 79% of your responders lying doesn't matter and I am alarmed. First, what sort of audience is your program attracting and what values is your program encouraging?
Finally, how is one supposed to answer the absolutely silly question about child soldier rehabilitation? No, they can not be recovered? Western culture no recognizes that possibility so it is a fixed question, an infantile one, really. Moreover, what else is one to do but make the rehab effort? This book and its handling is pretty poor stuff. However, you have been good about putting out links and references to the points in dispute and that is to the good.
