Right Behind You

Right Behind You

Author: Gail Giles
Genre: Young Adult Fiction

Right Behind You, by Gail Giles, is a very well written book. It has raw, human emotion and is full of conflict. It shows how one mistake in your life can cause an untold amount of trouble. The story begins with Kip, a nine-year-old boy, living in the woods in Alaska with his dad. He is doing chores when a neighbor boy starts gloating to Kip about his new glove. Kip gets angry and tosses a bucket of gasoline on the glove, sloshing some on the boy. Kip lights a lighter and tosses it at the glove, setting the glove and boy on fire. The story then follows Kip
as he is committed to a juvenile psychiatric center, where he goes through therapy and has to learn to forgive himself for his crime. After his stay, his family moves to a new town. Kip has to erase his past, which means
changing his name, and trying to shed his guilt for what he did. However, Kip learns that this isn't possible, and he must learn to live with the pain he feels.

This book is a great story, and it shows a side of people that is not often found in books.

Book Recommendations from Faith at Holgate

Posted on Tuesday January 15, 2008 by Barbara Head

I like the Tale of Despereaux.  It's a very adventurous book -- you want to keep reading. The mouse is a really good character. I also like The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by the same author -- Kate DiCamillo.

So, It's Winter Break And You Don't Know What To Read...

Posted on Saturday December 22, 2007 by Sunshine Warhola

Here are 10 very appealing books I think everyone should read, especially if you don't know what to read and you've found yourself with a lot of time this Winter break!

1.) Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by Jonathon Safron Froer

This book has a very unique & artistic voice and gives you another view of September 11th, from a child's point of view.

2.) Peeps by Scott Westerfield

For all you obsessed vampire fans, this book is perfect! It analyzes vampires in a realistic and scientific way, and at the same time you get facts on the unusual parasites that would make your skin crawl.

3.) It's Kind of A Funny Story by Ned Vizzini

This book gives you a humorous view of what it's like being in a mental institute for no apparent reason. As usual, in Ned Vizzini's books you can count on laughing a lot!

 4.) Tithe by Holly Black

Now who said faeries were for babies! Tithe is the total unexpected faerie tale with a twist. Read this and I promise you will not be unsatisfied.

5.) War of The Worlds by H.G. Wells

Yes, this is a classic book, BUT too many people have put it down expecting it to be as dumb as the Tom Cruise movie. This book will get you thinking about space invasions like never before!

6.) Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris

For the mature reader, David Sedaris voices this book in his usual satirical way, but leaves you laughing page after page. Each chapter is a short escapade from David's youth, an autobiography like no other.

7.) Twilight by Stephanie Meyer

For the romantic vampire lover, Twilight seduces all of it's readers into falling in love with a character more than any other book I have ever read. I bought a copy of this book last year and it seemed like every girl at my school had borrowed it and absolutely loved it!

8.) Feed by M.T Anderson

This book will confuse and entrance you with the futuristic and technology enhanced world of the feed. Another book for the romantic reader, but also for the sci-fantasy reader.

9.) Born Confused by Tanuja Desai Hidier

This book expresses finding yourself culturally, dealing with friends, first loves, and all the teenage hardships of being a girl. Definitely a must read.

10.) The Catcher In The Rye by J.D Salinger

This is obviously a book you will have to read anyway, but it must go on this list. The ultimate coming of age, rebelious teenager, classic banned book, and quick read all at once. Holden Caulfield will capture you with his wit and crazy adventures. You either love it or you hate it.

Happy Reading & Holidays To All!

(YOU will be happy reading these)

harry potter #4 review

Posted on Tuesday July 10, 2007 by Kenzie Erickson

My favorite book is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, it is really good. I wanna know what everyone thinks about it. My favorite part of the book is when Hermione comes down the stairs in her beautiful dress for the Yule Ball. The worst thing about this movie was it missed a lot of important details. I like all Harry movies and books but #4 was the best.
