Music Reviews

Posted on Thursday November 08, 2007 by Gina Scalpone

It has come to my attention that NO ONE has posted ANYTHING about music.  How can this be?  Music is one of my favorite things!  But since everyone is being apathetic and boring, I'm going to put a few of my reviews on here:

 Pop:

I love this album!  Timbaland is one of the best producers out there, these days!  On "SexyBack", they pay homage to the late James Brown with the lines "take 'em to the bridge" and "take 'em to the chorus".  "What Goes Around.../... Comes Around Interlude" has a slightly Middle-Eastern feel.  Justin pants and sporatically sings in falsetto throughout.  My favorite song: the title song.  Don't ask me why. 10/10

Rock:

Queen is most definitely one of the best bands ever.  Most listen to Queen music post-"Bohemian Rhapsody", but In my opinion Their older albums are better.  For those who like the newer Queen, or people who are just starting to listen to them, listen to "Killer Queen".  Very nice guitar on "Tenement Funster", without getting too heavy, but "Flick of the Wrist" is and always be my favorite song from this album.  9/10

Punk: (this my favorite type of music)

The Ramones were the first punk band.  Ever.  They are my favorite band.  Ever.  This is one of the only times you will see me recommend a greatest hits record.  This is because every song I like are this record.  Every song is fast, short, and slurred.  In short, perfect.  It starts out with "I Wanna Be Sedated", one of their catchiest--and easiest to understand--songs.  Twenty-nine songs later, it closes with "Rock 'N' Roll High School", an anti-ode to high school.  Newcomers CANNOT miss "Blitzkrieg Bop", their signiture song.  11/10

I love Paramore for the lead singer.  Most punk bands are led by a guy, but Hayley Williams handles it beautifully.  She has a wonderful voice.  Every song has great guitar.  All the songs sound a little bit alike.  Listen to "Misery Business" and "For a Pessimest, I'm Pretty Optimistic" for the witty lyrics, "That's What You Get" for the great vocals, and "Crushcrushcrush" for the cool back-up vocal and cool guitar riffs.  9/10

R&B:

I don't listen to much R&B, but this has to be one of the most eclectic R&B albums ever.  "Shut Up and Drive" samples heavy guitar, "Don't Stop the Music" is techno, "Breakin' Dishes" sounds almost like the Donna's, "Rehab" is a ballad, and "Umbrella" sounds like classic Pop-R&B cross-over.  For music that sounds like her old self, listen to the opening of "Sell Me Candy". 9/10

Hey Gina, this is great! I took the liberty of going in and changing the Amazon links to links into our very own library catalog. We don't have all the albums, but we do have music by all the bands.
